First, check your Tesla.

Two cars with the same model name can have different audio hardware, software, and regional settings. Before preparing a USB drive, check the vehicle you actually own.

Look for the feature on the touchscreen.

While parked, look in Toybox → Boombox for Lock Sound. Confirm that a USB or custom option exists. Tesla’s current manuals describe the outside lock sound and require the Pedestrian Warning System (PWS) for the relevant sound options. Menu labels and feature availability may differ.

Use your own model’s manual.

The Model 3 manual linked below is a starting reference, not a universal guide for Model Y, Model S, Model X, Cybertruck, every model year, or every country. Choose the correct model and market on Tesla’s owner-manual site and check the section about doors, locks, and Boombox.

What LockChime checks.

Our file check confirms PCM WAV encoding, one audio channel, 44.1 kHz, 16-bit samples, a short duration, a non-silent signal, and a size under 1,000,000 bytes. It does not inspect your vehicle. We do not connect to your Tesla account or change settings remotely.

What this feature does.

The custom lock sound is a short outside sound associated with locking the parked car. It is separate from driving horn sounds, pedestrian warning audio, and other Boombox playback modes. A USB sound file does not provide a way to modify those systems.

Real-world testing is specific.

A useful vehicle test records model, year, region, software version, USB format and port, file version, and date. We currently provide format-checked downloads without a blanket “all models tested” badge. If you try a file, you can share your result without supplying a VIN or Tesla login.
